The Gaussig house’s 90 acres of parkland are ideal for walking, jogging or a first foray into Nordic walking (guests may borrow poles from the hotel). Guests can make their way along the well-signposted routes and discover the stunning scenery that lies directly beyond on the park borders: softly rolling basalt hills and forests with a menagerie of animals including deer, hares and rare birds such as Eurasian jays and storks.
Swimming: Guests may swim all year round in our spa pool or, alternatively, make use of the beautiful lake on the grounds in summer. Boats are also available if you enjoy rowing or, if you are feeling lazy, just drift along its placid waters and relax.
Cycling tours: The gently rolling Upper Lusatian hills provide a fantastic setting for both short and long cycling tours. Guests can hire bikes from the hotel.
Golf: The nearest 18 hole golf course is Dresden-Ullersdorf, about 25 miles away or Dresden Elbflorenz, 34 miles.
Horse riding: One of Saxony’s most modern riding facilities is located a few miles away. Take your own horse, or book riding lessons or tours on horseback at reception.
Tennis: The nearest courts are only 3 miles away.
Fishing: Pike, perch, rainbow trout, carp and roach, as well as smaller numbers of tench and grass carp can be found swimming in the crystal-clear waters of one of the estates 9 acres lake. (Please note that only guests with a valid fishing license are permitted to fish in the lake.)
Hunting: Gaussig house hunting ground contains deer, wild boar and predator game. Guests may hunt here by arrangement with the management, though please note that hunting is only for those who hold a valid hunting license.

Nature watching and night walks: We are happy to take nature-lovers up to the raised hide where they can observe the park’s many birds and other animals. Or take a tour to the wolves with a ranger – an unforgettabele experience.
Diving: Guests can go diving in the own lake in the Klosterberg mountain (147 feet deep, granite base) or travel 27 miles to the famous Horka quarry, which has an excellent 50-65 feet visibility range between the thaw and June and has been rated one of the ten best lakes in Germany for diving (Tauchen magazine, 06/2008).
Ice skating: Enjoy the sensation of gliding across our frozen lake in winter; ice-skates are available for hire. And when you feel like a break, why not warm up with a mug of hot punch and a few biscuits from the manor kitchen?
Cross-country skiing: Guests can take advantage of the many cross-country ski runs in Neukirch and Sohland, or simply enjoy the magical stillness of winter in the manor grounds. Upper Lusatia is an official partner of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships that will be held in Liberec in the Czech Republic (less than an hour from Gaussig) in January and February 2009.
Downhill skiing: The northern slope of nearby Valtenberg in Neukirch is one of the most interesting in the region and has several ski lifts.
